Origin of the Name

The name "The Loaded Dog" is from a short story by an Australian writer called Henry Lawson.  It’s all about a lovable by rather stupid mutt that likes to fetch things, click <here> and read the story. It is  not real politically correct as one dog is sent to heaven by the end and we suspect that other dogs may have been harmed in the writing of the story.

Booking Gigs at the Loaded Dog

IF YOU ARE A BAND

FIRSTLY ENSURE YOU HAVE PRACTICED ABOUT THREE TIMES AS MUCH AS YOU THINK YOU NEED TO HAVE.

Then, when you think your ready send us a Demo CD, or send us link to your myspace page, using this contact form – so we get some idea of how good or bad you sound – even if the demo is a bit rough around the edges! Also send along as much info about the band that you can lay your hands on…….
We need to know your style of music, a bit about the band members and their history if any. Tell us where you've played, where your going to play, how long you've been together as a band, do you have a website, do you have any fans at all (apart from your family and friends).
We feature all styles of bands and music, so don’t hold back.

We are looking for bands to fill slots throughout the year. Some Thursday night slots are available and also some Sundays (during the day).
We have separate deals for bands and promoters, and then also a choice of deals for bands depending on their fan base (so that even bands with a very limited fan base or an uncertain base can still play – as everyone has to start somewhere). Bands can choose the payment contract that suits them. Some contracts pay from person number one that you bring, some don’t, but obviously work out much more viable if you have a large fan base.
We only put on bands of a similar type each night so that fans should enjoy all the music on any one night. Times on stage are as follows: 8:40, 9:30, 10:20, 11:00 and 12:00 - this Headline slot can play up to a 2 hour set if they have the material but 40 minutes is fine also.
All fans are recorded against the band they have come to see and payment to bands is made on the night they perform.

Be a little patient with us though – we get heaps of demos and it sometimes takes us awhile to get around to them all, but we will contact you.

Mail us details to loadeddog [at]galaxeofstars.com of the Line-up you've got in mind with as much info as possible about the bands, and yourself. We normally have 2-3 bands a night.
We are always on the lookout for good promoters who know how this business works! Anybody that does well will always be on the top of our list for future dates...... (Look under TECH SPECS for details of the club PA & Lighting rig).

REMEMBER: We are a Live Music Venue not a pub or club that has a regular crowd! If the locals here don't know who the bands are they are not likely to come and see them. If a night isn't promoted properly (which includes flyers, e-mailing people and generally pestering people until they say they'll support you ,then pester them a bit more just to make sure) Then it will generally be a total waste of time for all concerned.
Nobody, especially us wants this to happen. So please don't waste our time and yours by booking bands and then just presuming everyone is going to turn up!
